A new website called JioStar has emerged on the internet amid the ongoing talk around the JioHotstar domain. The website has only posted ‘Coming Soon’ written on the black backdrop and nothing else. Any information about the website has not been disclosed yet but it is speculated that it will be the new OTT platform amid the Reliance and Disney+ Hotstar merger talks.
The merger between Reliance Industries and Disney India was finalized in February 2024, with a deal worth USD 8.5 billion (approximately Rs 71,455 crore). The website ‘JioStar’ has gone online after the JioHotstar domain was purchased by the Dubai-based siblings Jainam and Jivika Jain.
Jainam and Jivika earlier said in a statement, “With all the discussions happening, we now think it might be best for Team Reliance to have this domain, if they want it. We are happy to give jiohotstar.com to them for free, with all the proper paperwork. To be clear, this is entirely our choice. No one from Reliance or any legal group has contacted us or pressured us in any way. We made this decision on our own, without any pressure from friends, family, or anyone else.”

Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that major sports events like IPL 2025 will move to Disney+ Hotstar, although no official announcement has been made by the company yet. Jio Cinema currently retains broadcasting rights for the IPL, English Premier League, and the Domestic Pro Kabaddi League. Disney+ Hotstar holds rights to a variety of sporting events in addition to ICC tournaments.
