During its Q2 FY25 earnings call, Reliance Jio announced upgrades to its ‘True 5G’ network, designed to improve user experience. As the only telecom provider in India offering 5G via a standalone (SA) architecture, Jio’s network delivers gigabit speeds while optimizing device power consumption, extending battery life by up to 20-40%.
Jio’s Unique SA 5G Network Boosts Device Battery Life
Kiran Thomas, President of Reliance Jio Infocomm, explained that the network’s innovative features, including standalone 5G architecture and carrier aggregation, contribute to enhanced efficiency. Unlike non-standalone (NSA) 5G networks that rely on 4G infrastructure, Jio’s SA 5G is purpose-built, enabling improved power management. Additionally, Jio’s smart spectrum management optimizes power consumption by efficiently allocating energy-saving bands, reducing handset power usage.
Advanced Technologies for Superior Call Quality and Navigation
Jio has also introduced Voice Over New Radio (VoNR), which enhances voice quality and reduces call setup times by routing calls over the 5G network. The company is working closely with major smartphone manufacturers to make VoNR the default calling method for devices on its 5G network.

Enhanced Location Accuracy for Better Navigation
Beyond call quality, Jio’s 5G network supports precise location tracking without solely relying on GPS. Leveraging advanced algorithms like angle of arrival, the network achieves GPS-level accuracy within 10 meters. This feature benefits navigation and hyperlocal services, enhancing accuracy while conserving battery power.
Improved User Experience in Dense Network Areas
Using time division duplex (TDD) technology, Jio manages interference across multiple spectrum bands, maintaining network capacity even in crowded environments. This innovation allows for a smoother user experience in high-traffic areas.
With these advancements, Reliance Jio’s 5G network aims to deliver a highly efficient, high-performance experience, solidifying its position as a leader in India’s telecommunications market.
