Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 series has generated a huge buzz with several leaks and rumours making rounds on the internet. The latest such leak comes in a video by EFTM’s Trevor Long, revealing some design elements of the iPhone 16 via the machined blanks. These blanks, which are used to help the manufacturer make cases for the new iPhones, hint at a big change.
The video shows the external materials that are likely to make way to the upcoming iPhone 16 series. A report in Forbes suggests that “… it’s safe to assume that these blanks represent the final design choices of Tim Cook and his team and reflect the hour phones we will see in September.” While one can notice the physical aspect, it’s not clear what would be the functionality or features as they entirely depend on the software.
iPhone 16: Action Button
Last year, Apple left the potential buyers of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus disappointed as it introduced the Action Button only for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. So, the plain vanilla iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus had to settle for the age-old mute button. If rumours are to be believed, the Action Button will now be present in all Apple smartphones across the iPhone 16 series.
Capture Button
Apple is said to be introducing a new button, informally dubbed as the Capture Button, on the right side. The video suggests that this button will be present on the smartphone. EFTM report says, “…it’s more likely Apple will set this to be exclusively the Camera Shutter button for iPhone.” Furthermore, this button is likely to be programmed to perform various tasks.

iPhone 16: Camera Lens Arrangement
The video also claims that there will be a vertical camera lens arrangement this time instead of how it is on the existing models. This could allow better synchronisation with the Apple Vision Pro headset to enable spatial video recording.
ALD coating
According to recent reports, Apple is exploring revolutionary technologies to improve the photography capabilities of its flagship devices.
According to a report from South Korean news aggregator Eyes1122’s Naver blog cited by MacRumors, Apple plans to implement a cutting-edge optical anti-reflective optical coating technology known as the Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) for the iPhone 16 Pro. Designed to address common photography issues such as flare and ghosting, this advanced coating gives users the ability to produce sharper, more pristine photos and videos.
Although details on the ALD coating are still scarce, analysts believe it could revolutionise the photography experience on the iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max, with potential benefits for photo and video enthusiasts.
This development coincides with previous speculation about major camera upgrades on the iPhone 16 Pro lineup. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicated the possibility of a significant transition to a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, promising users more enhanced details and clarity in their ultra-wide-angle shots. Additionally, there are rumours about the integration of a tetraprism telephoto lens, currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which will give users greater optical zoom capabilities.
