Asus has begun teasing its next-gen gaming smartphone, the Asus ROG Phone 8, which is set to be announced at the CES 2024 event on January 8. The upcoming device is expected to feature a square design with flat edges and rounded corners, tagged as “Beyond Gaming” by Asus.
Leaked images reveal power and volume buttons on the right side. The Vanilla ROG Phone 8 is likely to launch with a matte and grippy finish, while the Pro variant may offer a brighter and premium feel. Both smartphones will sport a 6.78-inch Samsung Flexible AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The ROG Phone 8 Pro is expected to have an LTPO display with a refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, supporting up to 165Hz for gaming. Asus aims for a maximum brightness of 2500 nits on the devices. Powering the phones will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, running at a clock speed of 3.3GHz, coupled with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 internal storage.
The Vanilla variant will come in a 12GB RAM + 256GB storage option, while the Pro variant will have 16GB + 512GB and 24GB + 1TB storage variants. Both phones will run on ROG UI based on Android 14 out of the box and pack a 5500mAh battery supporting Quick Charge 5.0 and PD charging.
