In the Cricket World Cup 2023, Pakistan suffered a significant defeat against India. On Saturday, the match took place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, where Pakistan’s batsmen struggled against Indian bowlers.
Following India’s victory, a heartwarming scene unfolded on the field. Star batsman Virat Kohli engaged in a conversation with Pakistani captain Babar Azam and even gifted his signed jersey to him. This video has gone viral on social media platforms, delighting fans from both countries.

However, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram expressed his disapproval of this friendly interaction between Babar and Kohli. Akram believed that, after such a crushing defeat, Babar Azam shouldn’t have engaged in such gestures on the field.
Answering a fan’s question on a Pakistani TV show, Akram remarked, “When I saw the picture (of the jersey exchange), I had the same thought. Today was not the day for this. If your friend wanted Kohli’s shirt, he could have requested it in the dressing room after the match.”
Nonetheless, the camaraderie between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli underscores that cricket transcends boundaries. These two cricketers share a special bond beyond the field, demonstrating the sportsmanship and friendship that cricket fosters. Babar Azam notably supported Kohli during a tough period in his career, and their friendship extends beyond mere competition. Babar top-scored for Pakistan in the match, contributing 50 runs from 58 balls, including seven fours. On India’s side, Rohit Sharma played an impressive inning, scoring 86 runs from 63 balls, including six sixes and an equal number of fours. Shreyas Iyer also played an unbeaten inning, contributing 53 runs to India’s victory.
Wasim Akram, who had a stellar career, holds the record for taking the most wickets for Pakistan in both Test and ODI formats. Akram’s 502 wickets in 356 ODIs came at an average of 23.52, and he claimed 414 wickets in 104 Test matches with an average of 23.62. Notably, he was part of the Pakistani team that won the 1992 World Cup, and he also captained the team during the 1999 World Cup, where they finished as runners-up.
