New Delhi: India U19 women’s team scripted history on Sunday after they defeated England by 7 wickets and lifted the inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. All the eleven girls who played the final and registered their name in the record book.
The road of success is not as easy for a girl as the battle becomes even tougher. Archana’s mother Savitri Devi played the role of anchor in her journey to achieve her dream of wearing ‘Indian jersey’.
But that was not easy for the mother as well as she was blamed and condemned for letting her daughter stand on her feet.
Savitri Devi lost her husband to cancer and a son to a snake-bite, she was labeled as ‘daayan’ (a witch) by their relatives. This does not ended here, after that Savita Devi was again blamed by her relatives for sending daughter Archana on ‘galat rasta’ (wrong path).

Saviti Devi then took the huge step to send her cricket-crazy daughter Archana at the ‘Kasturba Gandhi Awasiya Balika Vidyalaya’, an all-girls boarding school in Ganj Moradabad, 15-20 kms away from their village, Ratai Purwa, Unnao in Uttar Pradesh. Then the cheap whisper was heard among her relatives that she sold her daughter to some dealer.
Archana Devi played the key role as her one-hand stunning catch to dismiss England’s top-scorer Ryana Macdonald Gay grabbed everyone’s attention. She scalped two wickets of England’s Niamh Holland and Grace Scrivens.
