A Father Again Amidst Cricketing Challenges
This marks Rohit’s second time as a father, after the birth of his daughter Samaira in 2018 during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With the arrival of his newborn, it remains uncertain whether Rohit will be available for the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, starting November 22 at Perth Stadium.
Rohit’s Absence and Team Adjustments
Rohit opted to stay back in India for the birth of his child while the Indian team departed for Australia last weekend. The team is currently training at the WACA stadium in Perth. Should Rohit miss the first Test, India has several options for the opening batter slot, including KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Abhimanyu Easwaran, who could partner with left-handed Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Rohit’s Recent Form and the Team’s Preparation
Rohit has faced a dip in form, having struggled in his last 10 Test innings, including the series against Bangladesh and New Zealand leading up to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite India’s 2-0 sweep over Bangladesh, the team was whitewashed 3-0 by New Zealand at home, India’s first 0-3 loss in a three-Test series at home.
As the Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins, the team’s preparations continue amid uncertainties surrounding Rohit’s participation in the opening match.
