T20 World Cup 2024: Virat Kohli And Sanju Samson In As India Announces Their 15-Member Squad

India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad has been unveiled, with Rohit Sharma appointed as captain and Hardik Pandya as vice-captain, despite earlier speculation of Rishabh Pant taking over the role. Pant is slated to return to international cricket for the World Cup, having demonstrated both fitness as a wicketkeeper-batter and exceptional batting form.

In a surprise move, Rinku Singh finds himself excluded from the squad and listed among the traveling reserves, despite demonstrating significant finishing abilities since his international T20 debut. Another notable omission is Ravi Bishnoi, who has been a regular presence in non-World Cup years. Yuzvendra Chahal has earned his place ahead of Bishnoi, showcasing impressive performances for the Rajasthan Royals during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Despite uncertainties surrounding his position in the squad, Virat Kohli has been selected, bolstered by his outstanding performance in the IPL 2024 where he currently holds the orange cap with 500 runs in 10 matches. Kohli’s recent match-winning knock of an unbeaten 70 off 44 balls against Gujarat Titans served as a stern reply to his critics. Additionally, Sanju Samson has earned his place in the squad, likely serving as the second wicketkeeper due to his consistent performances in the IPL.

Shivam Dube has also secured his spot in the squad, primarily due to his impressive form in the IPL 2024 season. Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan have been named as part of the travelling reserves for the team. While they will accompany the squad, they are not officially included in the final squad for the T20 World Cup.
