Star player of Delhi Capitals faces rape accusations, police starts investigation
New Delhi: A cricket player, who has played in Indian Premier League (IPL), has been accused of rape by a minor 17-year-old girl.
The minor girl leveled serious allegation of rape against the Nepal cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane, who played for Delhi Capitals in IPL.
The girl revealed that she was a big fan of Nepal's deadly leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane and that she used to talk to the player through social media platforms WhatsApp and Snapchat.
Moreover, the minor girl said that it was Lamichhane who had asked to meet earlier. The girl claims that Sandeep has raped her not once but twice. This incident happened on August 21.
Following medical examination of the minor girl, the police registered the case against the cricketer after getting the confirmation.
Sandeep Lamichhane is currently playing in the Caribbean Premier League.
Made debut in IPL in 2018
Sandeep, who is a leg spinner, is the first player from Nepal to play in IPL. He was a part of Delhi Capitals in IPL from 2018 to 2020 and took 13 wickets in 9 IPL matches. The right-arm bowler was sold for 20 lakhs in the IPL auction. Sandeep had performed brilliantly in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup.

Sandeep Lamichhane has been a part of 23 teams in his 4-year international career. He played 30 ODIs and 44 T20s for Nepal so far. He has taken 69 wickets in 30 ODIs and 85 wickets in 44 T20 matches.
