South Africa head coach Mark Boucher announces stepping down after T20 World Cup

Mark Boucher has announced that he will be stepping down as the head coach of South Africa cricket team after the T20 World Cup.

New Delhi: Mark Boucher has announced that he will be stepping down as the head coach of South Africa cricket team after the T20 World Cup.

At the conclusion of Test against England in London, Boucher informed the authorities that World Cup in Australia will be his last project with the team.

Why is Mark Boucher stepping down?

The reason behind the decision of quitting the position of head coach is yet unclear. However, CEO of Cricket South Africa, Pholetsi Moseki, has said that he wants ot pursure other interests.

“We are very surprised and shocked. He told us he wants to pursue other interests and opportunities. But we are glad that he will be there to take South Africa to the T20 World Cup,” he said.

“We would like to thank Mark for the time and effort he has invested in South African cricket as the Head Coach over the past three years. He has helped navigate us through some rough waters following the departures of so many senior players through retirement and has helped lay some strong foundations for the next generation of Proteas. We are extremely grateful to him for the work he has done and would like to wish him well with the next chapter of his career,” he added.

Achievements of Mark Boucher

He took head coach responsibility of the team in 2019 December and led the side to 11 Test wins, including the success of taking the team on second in the ICC World Test Championship table. His contract is entitled to end in year 2023 but now he will be leaving the team after Australia trip.
