SL-NZ Test Series 2024: O’Rourke’s Career-Best 5-fer Destroys Sri Lanka

The Kiwi seamer destroyed the host with his 5/55.

On the second day of the first Test in Galle, New Zealand knocked the hosts for 305 runs, thanks to a spectacular bowling display by William O’Rourke, who took a five-wicket haul (5/55). New Zealand so far scored 97/1.

Sri Lanka took the day at 302/7 but lost Prabath Jayasuriya, shortly after lunch, to lbw by Ajaz Patel in the third over. Not more than an hour later, rain interrupted the game for 45 minutes. On resumption, O’Rourke claimed two more wickets, sending Ramesh Mendis lbw and Asitha Fernando bowled. In that space of time, Sri Lanka managed three runs but lost three wickets.
