Despite Delhi Capitals‘ significant victory on Sunday evening, not all aspects of the game unfolded as intended. Rishabh Pant, the team’s captain who exhibited remarkable batting prowess, faced a substantial fine of Rs 12 lakhs. This penalty was imposed due to his team’s slow over rate during their match against CSK. It marked the first instance of such an offense for his team in the current IPL season, falling under the league’s Code of Conduct concerning minimum over rate violations.

The IPL witnessed another occurrence of a team captain receiving a fine due to their team’s slow over rate during a match. Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans faced a parallel consequence, being fined INR 12 lakhs for the same offense during the IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai last Tuesday.

Despite the challenges he faced, Rishabh Pant showcased an exceptional performance with the bat, achieving his first fifty in the IPL 2024. This remarkable feat came after his absence from the 2023 edition of the tournament due to his recovery from a serious car accident in December 2022. Building on the momentum set by a splendid 93-run partnership between Prithvi Shaw and David Warner, during which Warner reached his half-century, Pant continued the onslaught with a quickfire 32-ball 51, contributing significantly as Delhi Capitals set a formidable target of 192 runs.
As the top-order of Chennai Super Kings struggled, Ajinkya Rahane took charge in the middle order, delivering a brisk 30-ball 45. The veteran presence of MS Dhoni then ignited a sense of nostalgia as he exhibited a vintage display, hammering four boundaries and three sixes in his unbeaten knock of 37 off 16 balls. Despite their efforts, the impressive comeback from the Delhi Capitals bowlers during the death overs saw CSK being contained to 171 for six. This effective bowling performance ensured a 20-run victory for the hosts, sealing the win for Delhi Capitals.
