Hosts India continued their sensational run at the ongoing World Cup 2023 and finished the league stage with a terrific 9-0 record after they smashed Netherlands by 160 runs in Bangalore on Sunday.
During the game at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Indian batters took the limelight as hosts posted a massive total of 410/4 in 50 overs. However, Jadeja also wasn’t far behind and scripted history with a two-wicket haul in the second innings.
With his 2 for 49, Jadeja took his wickets tally in the ongoing World Cup to 16 in nine matches. He thus set a new record for the most wickets by an Indian spinner in a single edition of the ODI World Cup, surpassing Anil Kumble (15 wickets in 1996) and Yuvraj Singh (15 wickets in 2011).
Meanwhile, Jadeja’s teammate and fellow spinner Kuldeep Yadav is also nearby with 14 dismissals, after his 2 off 41 against Netherlands. Kuldeep has the chance to overcome Jadeja in the upcoming matches.
Jadeja’s Sensational Run At World Cup 2023
The 34-year-old Jadeja has been in sensational form at the ongoing World Cup 2023 with both bat and ball. Apart from his superb fifer against South Africa, the all-rounder also made impactful contributions with the bat from time to time at the mega event.
Given his experience and brilliant skill, Jedeja’s role will be crucial for India’s success during the knockout stages.
The spinners have done very well in the ongoing tournament with Australia’s Adam Zampa being the leading wicket-taker with 22 scalps. So, Jadeja will have a massive role to play in the semifinal.
India To Face New Zealand In Semi-Final
The Rohit Sharma led side, who is the only also unbeaten side at the ongoing ODI World Cup, will now face New Zealand in the first semi-final on Wednesday, November 15 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Notably, India will meet New Zealand in the ODI World Cup semi-finals for the second-successive time. During the last ODI World Cup in 2019, New Zealand beat India by 21 runs in a rain-hit semi final in Manchester.
However, hosts India had defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the group stage last month in Dharamshala in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 and it will give them a lot of confidence.
