New Delhi: Sri Lanka women’s cricket team scripted history on Wednesday, July 12 at P. Sara Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Chamari Athapaththu-led side defeated White Ferns by 10 wickets to end the series 2-1.

Batting first, New Zealand on account of some crucial knocks from Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates, posted 140. In reply, Sri Lanka cruised to a 10-wicket victory after Chamari Athapaththu slammed 80 runs on 47 balls.

Athapaththu shines with bat

Sri Lanka’s openers gave solid start, when they came to chase down the target. Captain Chamari Athapaththu batted fearlessly and chased down the target in just 14.3 overs. Athapaththu and her partner Harshita Samarawickrama stitched 143 runs partnership. Samarawickrama scored 49 off 40 balls while Chamari Athapaththu scored 80 off 47 balls.

Although, Sri Lanka lost the 3-match T20 series after loosing first two matches, but by winning last match.

Biggest partnership for Sri Lanka in T20i

Chamari Athapaththu and Harshita Samarawickrama have set the record for the biggest partnership for Sri Lanka in T20s. Both scored 143 runs against New Zealand. Earlier, the record for the biggest partnership for Sri Lanka was in the name of Harshita Samarawickrama and Nilakshi de Silva, who shared a 104-run partnership against Bangladesh on 12 February 2023.
