The recently held ODI World Cup 2023 saw Team India skipper Rohit Sharma as one of the best captains Team India have had in major tournament since MS Dhoni.

Fans, former players and pundits all came in to praise the Hitman who took the Men In Blue to the World CUp final. Despite losing to Australia int he final, the tournament was remembered for Rohit’s astute leadership in the quadrennial event.

With Rohit making a return to T20 cricket after a long gap, many fans rejoiced to think of him leading the pack in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 as well. However, this time the story is turning out to not be a fairytale so far.

The two T20I matches against Afghanistan saw the skipper being sent back to the pavilion on consecutive ducks.

Youngsters To The Rescue

With the return of Rohit and Kohli doing the rounds on the internet, it was actually the youngsters who stood their ground and took the team through to the finish line. The 1st T20I saw Shivam Dube score an unbeaten 60 along with Jitesh Sharma’s 31-run cameo which took the team to victory. Same was the case in the 2nd T20I as Rohit got out on a duck. It was the blazing knock of Yashasvi Jaiswal (68) and Shivam Dube (63*) which gave India the series win in some fashion on the night.

With the team filled with potential Indian stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh and more, the experienced players like Rohit have taken a sidestep in the ongoing series so far.

Having said that, an experienced power hitter like Rohit can never be taken lightly as he holds the ability to destroy any team on a given day.

With the selection dilemma of BCCI selectors increasing as the T20 World Cup comes closer, it will be interesting to see who will lead the Men in Blue in their pursuit of ending their ICC trophy drought this year.
