Mohammed Shami’s exceptional performances are already well-known, and now, his brother, Mohammed Kaif, is making headlines in the cricketing world. Following a remarkable bowling spell of 4 for 14, Kaif showcased his batting prowess at number 9, scoring an unbeaten 45 to help Bengal secure a first-innings lead of 128 runs against Uttar Pradesh in their Ranji Trophy Group B match in Kanpur on Saturday. It’s noteworthy that this marks Kaif’s debut in First-Class cricket.

Earlier this month, Shami had extended congratulations to his brother for earning a spot in the Ranji Trophy playing for Bengal.

“Finally after a long struggle, you got Ranji trophy cap for Bengal. Cheers!! Great Achievement !! Congratulations, I wish you a great future ahead! Give your 100% and Keep continuing hard work & do well,” Shami had written on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In the Ranji Trophy clash between Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, Kaif’s team faced a challenging situation, collapsing to 188 after starting the day at 95 for 5 at the Green Park. The experienced Indian seamer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, showcased his skills by returning remarkable figures of 8 for 41.

Uttar Pradesh, having been dismissed for 60 in the first innings, displayed resilience in their second innings, ending the day at 46 for no loss. Samarth Singh and Aryan Juyal remained undefeated at 21 and 20, respectively, with UP trailing by 82 runs.

Day 3 promises an intriguing battle as the home team aims to overcome the deficit and establish dominance, while Bengal’s bowlers will be eager to take the early advantage.
