New Delhi: Sahal Abdul Samad made the big-money move to Mohun Bagan Super Giant from his parent club, Kerala Blasters FC, on Friday, July 14. Kerala Blasters confirmed the news of the midfielder exit.

Sahal signs five-year deal

Sahal has signed a five-year contract with the club. As per the reports, Bagan signed Sahal for Rs 2.5 crores. In the 2017-18 season, he played played in the Kerala Blasters B Team before getting a call to the senior side in the 2018-19 season. As an integral part of Blasters, he had so far played 92 games for the team.

“I’ve never seen a derby in the gallery, neither have I played in one. But the fact that I can now play in that match for Mohun Bagan makes me feel great. The stadium will be packed with fans cheering for our team. I never enter the pitch thinking of anything but a win. Win, win, win – this is my mentality. I’ll keep that in tact during the derby too,” Sahal said.

Muhan Bagan buys this season

The 26-year-old is the third signing of the club ahead of the upcoming  Indian Super League season, with Anirudh Thapa joining from Chennayin FC while Anwar Ali was loaned in from Delhi FC.

Mohun Bagan continues to add reinforcements to its squad after winning the ISL title last month and, bringing in two-time ISL-winning coach Antonio Habas as its Technical Director and A-League winner Jason Cummings as its striker.

Swap deal for Kerala Blasters

Mohun Bagan exchanged central-back Pritam kotal for Sahal. Mohun Bagan was ready to unload Kotal after the 2022-23 season and the club was waiting for the player to agree personal terms with the Blasters.

Sahal has ten goals and eight assists for the Blasters and is expected to make the midfield stronger, following a blistering form with the national team in the Intercontinental Cup and the SAFF Championship last month.
