T20 cricket is becoming the most-watched form of cricket nowadays because of its short duration and the level of excitement it brings to spectators worldwide. With limited overs at hand, batters often try to make the most of every single ball they play. Despite having a decent average, you won’t be considered a lethal player if you don’t possess a good strike rate in the format.

South African cricketer David Miller believes that in T20 cricket, strike rate holds more significance than batting averages, especially considering his impactful performances. Miller has excelled as a finisher for both the Gujarat Titans and the South African national team in recent years.

David Miller On Strike-Rates In T20 Cricket

“We’ve seen some high scores this year. And it’s been incredible batting by a few teams and few individual players in this IPL. And look, I always see everyone judges a batter on the average,” Miller told PTI.

“But in T20 cricket, it can be difficult to judge someone purely on that. The top three batters, definitely you can because of the number of overs they get to bat. When it comes to the middle order, it has always been the strike rates and what kind of impact the batter has had in the game. I suppose as we move forward, it becomes more and more about impact. How impactful are you in the game? Depending on the situation. If we’re needing 15 an over, can you do it? And that’s, I think, what guys are going to have to select teams on their match-winning ability,” he added.

The ongoing IPL season has seen an unprecedented rise in power hitting, sparking discussions about the importance of strike rate, with seven scores exceeding 250. Miller also praised the impressive performance of Gujarat Titans batsman Sai Sudharsan, who is enjoying a standout IPL season.

Miller also talked about he will be facing some of the world’s best bowlers in the format like Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“There are so many good Indian players. But me being a batter facing the bowlers, Bumrah is bowling well at the moment. And he has been a world-class bowler for many years. He’s a threat to me, as well as every other batter in the World Cup,” said the southpaw.

Looking ahead, Miller is eager to represent South Africa in the upcoming World Cup in the Americas, viewing it as an opportunity to claim a significant global title. As a hard-hitting batsman, he is ready to embrace the challenge.
