Before the IPL 2024 Auction, Alzarri Joseph was released by the Gujarat Titans (GT). He had been acquired by the Ahmedabad-based team for Rs 2.4 crore and played a crucial role in their 2022 IPL championship. During his stint with GT, the Antiguan bowler showcased his skills by taking 14 wickets in 16 games.
In 2019, Alzarri Joseph had played for the Mumbai Indians (MI) as an injury substitute prior to his two-year contract with GT. Despite an impressive debut where he conceded just 12 runs and took six wickets in three matches for MI, he went wicketless in two of those appearances.\
During the 2024 IPL auction in Dubai, a total of 333 players are up for bidding, comprising 214 Indian cricketers and 119 overseas players. However, the 10 teams collectively have only 77 slots available to fill, with each team allowed a maximum roster of 25 players.
