IPL 2025: It’s been less than a week since IPL 2025 kicked off, and we’ve already seen some thrilling matches. Now that all the teams have played at least one match, let’s see how the performances of the 5 most expensive players in IPL 2025 have panned out.

Rishabh Pant

Purchased by Lucknow Super Giants for a record amount of Rs 27 crore, Pant is now the most expensive player in IPL history. His first match against Delhi Capitals was far from remembrance. Pant remained scoreless, getting out after being given only 6 balls. And as if that wasn’t enough, he also failed to grab a stumping chance in the final over, helping Delhi claim an electrifying 1-wicket victory. Photographs of Pant with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka after this loss were trending all over the internet, and the fans thought that Pant might be getting a lesson in humility.

Shreyas Iyer

Punjab Kings bet high on purchasing Shreyas Iyer for Rs 26.75 crore and he emerged as the season’s second-highest valued player. Punjab skipper Iyer made the money in the first game itself, delivering a mind-boggling 97 off merely 42 balls, comprising 9 sixes and 5 fours. Punjab won the game with his endeavour and proved himself to be very much worth every penny spent on him.

Venkatesh Iyer

Bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 23.75 crore, Venkatesh Iyer was off to a rocky start. In his debut match, he could score a mere 6 runs from 7 balls against RCB. In the second match, KKR won the match by 8 wickets, but Iyer was not part of the batting order. So far, he has not lived up to the hype caused by his record price.

Arshdeep Singh

Left-arm pacer was purchased by Punjab Kings for Rs 18 crore. In his first game, Arshdeep took 2 wickets for 36 runs in 4 overs. Even though his game was not up to the mark, his team won the match, giving him a good start to the season.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Chahal was signed up by Punjab Kings for Rs 18 crore after a good campaign with Rajasthan last season. His debut match for Punjab, however, did not go as he would have expected. He failed to pick a wicket and was also not good with his economy, conceding 34 runs in 3 overs. Even though the team won, Chahal would look to come back stronger in the subsequent matches.

As the IPL 2025 progresses, there is much to live up to from these players. The initial performances have been good and bad, and the fans will be holding their breath to know if the stars can live up to their enormous price tags with the kind of performance that is expected of them as the season progresses.
