IPL 2025: India’s wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan had a light-hearted jibe at Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan for over-appealing behind the stumps. Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary shared a video on Instagram in which he complimented Kishan for his mature reaction to appealing. Ishan Kishan had a light-hearted jibe back at Rizwan and said that if he kept appealing so much, umpires would start ruling batters “not out” even when they’re actually out.
Kishan stressed that with the umpiring the way it is today, there would be no effect on decisions from frequent appeals, as they are so confident of their decisions.
Chaudhary Joked To Kishan
Chaudhary joked, “You’ve played so many matches under my umpiring. You’ve matured now. You appeal when necessary. You used to appeal a lot; what happened?” In response, Kishan said, “I think the umpires have become clever”. If you keep appealing every time, they might start calling ‘not out’ even if you are out. It will be more proper to appeal only when absolutely necessary. That way, you’ll be certain that you appealed at the right time.
Otherwise, if I just continue to do what Rizwan does, you may not grant even a single ‘out’. Kishan also emphasized that umpires should be convinced with their own judgment and decide based on their own judgment, not getting affected by repetitive appeals or from anywhere else. He summed up by saying that while some umpires have earned respect for their performances, there is always room for improvement, especially for new umpires. They need to be certain of their decisions, not care too much about the consequences, and do what they believe is right without being influenced by pleas or external factors.
