Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant is set to return to action for the IPL 2024 season after being sidelined since a car accident in December 2022. He recently received the green light from the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, signaling his readiness to play.

Pant is currently engaged in promotional shoots for the upcoming tournament and will be in Delhi for a few days. Afterward, he will head to Vizag to join the camp in preparation for the start of the IPL 2024 season with Delhi Capitals.

Sources reached out to Delhi Capitals for an official statement regarding Pant’s return and his role in the team, particularly whether he would continue as captain or play solely as a specialist batter. However, DC declined to comment on the matter. Sources close to the team revealed that DC intends to alleviate pressure on Pant, considering his international commitments. It is anticipated that Pant may not feature in the team as a wicketkeeper-batter.

Sourav Ganguly, Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket, emphasized the importance of Rishabh Pant’s fitness, stating that the National Cricket Academy’s clearance would determine further decisions, including captaincy backups. Ganguly highlighted a cautious approach, emphasizing Pant’s long-term career prospects and the need to avoid rushing him back into action. He outlined plans to assess Pant’s reaction after clearance and reiterated that decisions would be made on a match-by-match basis, with Pant joining the camp upon NCA clearance.

The Capitals are set to kick off their campaign against Punjab Kings on March 23 in Mohali. Following this, they will travel to Jaipur to face Rajasthan Royals on March 28. During the initial phase of the IPL, Delhi’s home matches will be held in Vizag. They are scheduled to play against CSK on March 31 and KKR on April 3
