DC captain Rishabh Pant has been penalized with a one-match suspension and a fine of INR 30 Lakh due to his team’s slow over-rate during their match against RR. This violation of the IPL Code of Conduct occurred during Match 56 of the IPL 2024 season, held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on May 07, 2024.

Rishabh To Miss RCB Clash

“As per Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Delhi Capitals filed an appeal challenging the ruling of the Match Referee. Following this, the appeal was referred to the BCCI Ombudsman for review. The Ombudsman conducted a virtual hearing and affirmed that the decision of the Match Referee remains final and binding,” the BCCI said in their press release.

Consequently, Pant will be absent from DC’s crucial match against RCB at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. Notably, DC’s continuation in the Indian Premier League hangs in the balance, as a loss in this match would result in their elimination from the tournament.

Pant’s pivotal role in DC’s resurgence this season, particularly following a challenging start, cannot be understated. Alongside players like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jake Fraser-McGurk, Pant has contributed significantly to making DC one of the most captivating teams in both batting and bowling. His adept leadership, highlighted in their match against GT, where DC restricted their opponents to a mere 89 runs, earned him the player of the match accolade.

Currently occupying the 5th position on the league table, DC shares points with CSK and LSG. With two remaining matches against RCB and LSG, DC’s fate in the tournament hangs in the balance. Additionally, 2024 marks Rishabh Pant’s comeback to cricket after enduring a near-fatal accident in December 2022, showcasing his resilience and dedication to the sport.
