Match 35 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) saw the SunRisers Hyderabad take on Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 20. In what is the venue’s first IPL 2024 tie this season, fans wouldn’t have expected to see the level of performance they got to witness on the night.

Records Galore In Delhi

Winning the toss and electing to field first, hosts Delhi Capitals would not have expected the onslaught they had in store for them from the very beginning.

It was carnage as SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma started to attack from the get-go, leaving DC bowlers startled. The power-hitting on display left the fans awestruck as they went on to register the highest powerplay score ever in T20 cricket history. Travis Head’s fastest fifty this year came in just 16 deliveries which took SRH to 125/0 at the end of the powerplay.

Abhishek Sharma too fell just short of equalling the mammoth record of a 12-ball fifty set earlier by Indian cricket legend Yuvraj Singh as he departed on a 12-ball 46 on the night.

Both openers played fearless cricket and didn’t seem to care about the personal milestones as Head also missed out on a stunning century after being dismissed at a 32-ball 89 which received a standing ovation from the home crowd as well.

Fastest 100 Runs In IPL History

The duo also raced to the fastest 100 runs in the history of the Indian Premier League. Reaching the score in just 5 overs, the projected score shown on the screen was an astonishing 400 runs at the time.

Despite losing out on 4 wickets in quick succession, SunRisers Hyderabad still managed to break the record for the highest total in IPL after 10 overs – 158/4.

Following the explosive innings by the top order, Nitish Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed scored some runs as well to take SRH to another impressive total of 266/7 in their 20 overs. The total is now also the highest score in Delhi so far.

Abhishek Sharma is showing some genuine potential this season and could see himself getting a ticket to the T20 World Cup 2024 as well if he continues to deliver performances like this. Abhishek has a strike rate of 215.96 so far in the IPL.

The all-rounder has formed a formidable duo with Head and can be a deciding factor in Hyderabad’s pursuit of another title this season.
