Nicholas Pooran’s 75 Fired LSG To 214/6
LSG opener Devdutt Padikkal had a disappointing start to his innings, getting dismissed for a golden duck by Nuwan Thusara in the first over.
Meanwhile, skipper KL Rahul played a crucial role in maintaining the team’s momentum, while Marcus Stoinis, known for his big hits, fell early after scoring 28 runs off 22 balls.
The partnership between KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran, worth 109 runs, was instrumental in guiding the Lucknow Super Giants to a competitive total. KL Rahul scored 55 runs, supported by a fiery innings of 75 runs from Nicholas Pooran.
Piyush Chawla and Nuwan Thusara, with three wickets each, contributed significantly for the hosts. However, it was Pooran’s outstanding performance that propelled LSG’s innings and enabled them to reach a formidable total of 214/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
LSG Restrict MI To 196/6
In reply, it was a decent start for the hosts as openers Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis gave MI a steady start before rain interrupted the play within the powerplay. After a slight delay to the innings, the play resumed with no overs being cut in the game.
While Dewald Brevis departed at 23 runs in the 9th over, Rohit Sharma continued to bat aggressively in the middle for the hosts. In-form batter Suryakumar Yadav also surprised the crowd by getting out on a duck in the next over itself. Rohit Sharma’s fiery 68 kept the scoreboard ticking but was not enough to take Mumbai over the line.
It was Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya who took the responsibility from there with the hosts needing 100 runs in just 42 balls. Skipper Hardik Pandya once again failed to make a mark as he was dismissed on just 16 runs and dropped all of MI’s hopes for a win on the night.
In the end, the hosts were restricted to just 196/6 in their 20 overs.
