DC vs GT: In the 40th match of the ongoing IPL 2024 season, Delhi Capitals (DC) will clash with Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, April 24.

Both teams have displayed inconsistency throughout the season, experiencing moments of promise followed by setbacks. Out of the eight matches played, Gujarat has won four and lost the same number, while Delhi has secured three victories and suffered five defeats. Currently, Gujarat stands at No. 6 on the points table, whereas Delhi occupies the No. 8 position. In their recent encounter in Ahmedabad, Delhi emerged victorious by six wickets with a whopping 67 balls remaining, chasing down a modest target of 90 runs comfortably.

Following a heavy loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in their first home game of the season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi will be eager to bounce back. Their bowling department has been a concern, conceding scores exceeding 230 on three occasions.

The inclusion of talented Australian youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk has provided a much-needed boost to the DC squad. In three matches, Fraser-McGurk has accumulated 140 runs at an impressive average of 46.67 and a striking rate of 222.22. Abhishek Porel has also showcased courage and form in challenging situations, while Tristan Stubbs’ aggressive batting style will be crucial in the latter stages of the innings. Despite concerns about David Warner’s form, a strong performance from the veteran on Wednesday would greatly benefit the Delhi franchise.

Pitch Report

The pitches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium have undergone significant changes since being relaid before the ODI World Cup 2023. The slow and sluggish surfaces have been replaced by batting-friendly tracks, allowing batters to play their shots confidently. In the previous game, a total of 465 runs were scored in just 39.5 overs, indicating the favorable conditions for batsmen. While run-scoring becomes slightly challenging with the older ball, the overall advantage still lies with the batters. Opting to bat first could be advantageous if there is minimal dew, and setting a target beyond 220 runs would pose a significant challenge for the chasing team.
