New Delhi:Ā The four-times champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be playing the inaugural match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition against the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Last year performance
The last season of IPL was ended on the disappointing note for the MS Dhoni-led side as they finished ninth in the ten-team tournament with just eight points. One of the most shocking news came in previous season was Dhoni’s decision to stepped down from the leadership role.
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja started the season as the captain but midway, he left his position due to the pressure of the job as well as the worrying run of form. MS Dhoni became the skipper once again, but it was too little too late for CSK.

Strong batting line-up
MS Dhoni may try new opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and New Zealand’s destructive opener Devon Conway. The top order of this year looks blistering, with big-bucket singing Ben Stokes and followed by experienced Ambati Rayadu at fourth down.
The middle-order also have skilled all-rounders like England’s Moeen Ali and Ā Shivam Dube, and Ravindra Jadeja. While, skipper Dhoni will be holding the command at the lower-middle order.

Deepak Chahar returns for IPL
The bowling was not up to the mark last season, but the return of Deepak Chahar will boost the confidence of the side. Mukesh Choudhary, who made his debut in previous edition of IPL for CSK, managed to bagged 16 wickets in 13 matches. Chaudhary will be bright spot for CSK bowling line-up. Sri Lanka’sĀ Maheesh TheekshanaĀ is once again expected to be their main spinner.
