Team India’s morale boosting victory in the 5-match Test series against England saw players perform well up to their expectations with both bat and ball in the games and helped India complete 400 wins on home soil as well. Players like Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Ravichandran Ashwin among others starred on the pitch in all 5 Tests.

However, there was one name which is often dismissed among other performers. Team India skipper Rohit Sharma’s contribution to the team can not be underestimated and the same opinion was voiced by his head coach and former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid as well who lauded the Indian skipper after the dominant series win under his leadership.
“It has been a pleasure watching him bat since I saw him as an 18-year-old. It is always pleasing to the eye. But I think he has added a lot of steel and grit to that. Sometimes, we forget that a little bit. Look at his numbers. He was shy enough not to mention the critical situation where he won the toss in Rajkot, and we were 3 down in the first hour. You need somebody to step up and get a hundred, and the captain does that for you,” Dravid said on JioCinema.
Giving Credit Where It’s Due
Rahul Dravid observed that Rohit tended to downplay his own achievements, allowing them to go unnoticed. Throughout the five matches against England, Rohit amassed 400 runs with an average of 44.44 and a strike-rate of 64.21. His standout performance occurred during the Rajkot Test, where he scored 131 runs in the first innings. Not only did Rohit contribute crucial runs for India, but he also exhibited exceptional leadership, guiding his team to a commanding 4-1 series victory over England.
“He has been terrific to watch; it is not easy to start as a middle-order player and then open. To do that consistently when we needed it, especially in the last three games, is a credit to him in spite of other things happening around him,” Dravid further said.
