IND vs BAN Test Series: The star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli scored a mammoth 12,000 runs figure on home soil during the first Test against Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Friday. This was the second time an Indian batter earned this historical distinction. Only the great Sachin Tendulkar remains ahead with the majestic run of 14,192 in India; Kohli is the fifth person across the globe to achieve this feat and score 12,000 runs on home turf.

Record Milestones

Kohli attained this brilliant record in his 219th match for India. His career stats are remarkable, scoring more than 12,000 runs with a near average of nearly 59.

For better perspective, Sachin Tendulkar retired with 14,192 runs in 258 games at 50.82 and scored 42 centuries and 70 half-centuries.

Overview of Kohli’s Phenomenal Career

Until now, Kohli has scored as many as 8,848 runs in Test cricket with a high score of 254. He has managed to average 49.16 with the bat, including 29 centuries and 30 fifties. In One Day Internationals, Kohli has earned 14,866 runs at a scintillating strike rate of 93.54 and average of 58.18, becoming the man with the most 50 centuries in ODIs.

However, for T20, he has played 125 matches, garnering a runs tally of 4188, his strike rate 137.04, and an average of 48.7.

This consistency while producing runs across formats was in Kohli’s game that sealed off his existence as one of the games’ all-time greats of cricket. With more milestones after continuing to break records in this phenomenal batsman, cricket fans wait eagerly for just such records.
