It was a great day for India, who now find themselves in a commanding position in this Test match! An astonishing 17 wickets fell today, which spoke volumes for the brisk pace of play. India started the day at 339/6 but added only 37 runs against the second new ball. Taskin Ahmed took three vital wickets, and Hasan Mahmud sealed the remainder of the innings to take five wickets as the hosts staged an improbable recovery from 144/6 to 376. A magnificent 199-run stand between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja laid the foundation for the recovery.

Bumrah-Akash Deep Started The Proceedings

For Bangladesh, things were a bit shaky in the beginning as they lost Shadman Islam to Jasprit Bumrah in the very first over. Two more in two successive overs from Akash Deep left Bangladesh at 26/3. It was not enough to revive from the lunch break as Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj struck back, and Bangladesh went under a collapse to 40/5.

However, then came some resistance through a half-century stand between Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan. Just when the batting was looking slightly easy, some tactical field changes led to the loss of the set batsmen. Litton went trying to sweep to a catch in the deep, and Shakib, to play a reverse-sweep. The tail failed miserably and Bangladesh was bowled out for just 149 in just one and a half sessions.

India Lost Three Wickets

India decided not to enforce the follow-on, leading by 227 runs, and elected to bat again. Yashasvi Jaiswal started aggressively with boundaries in the first over, and Rohit Sharma got off the mark also with a four. Both openers soon fell to catches behind however. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli then stabilized the innings, though Kohli was leg-before Mehidy Hasan in the second last over of the day-an LBW decision not revised despite a clear/faint inside edge.

Rishabh Pant also emerged well with four and six against Shakib and Gill started out strongly at the crease. And with a lead of 308 runs, India would look to bat Bangladesh out of this contest and get into an extremely good position in this Test match.

Brief scores: India 376 (R Ashwin 113, Ravindra Jadeja 86, Yashasvi Jaiswal 56; Hasan Mahmud 5-83, Taskin Ahmed 3-55) & 81/3 (Shubman Gill 33*; Nahid Rana 1-12) lead Bangladesh 149 (Shakib Al Hasan 32, Mehidy Hasan Miraz 27*; Jasprit Bumrah 4-50, Ravindra Jadeja 2-19, Akash Deep 2-19) by 308 runs.
