Yashasvi Jaiswal’s upward trajectory in the ICC Test Rankings continued, reaching a career-best 12th position in the latest update released on Wednesday, February 28. Jaiswal surpassed his opening partner Rohit Sharma, who now sits at No. 13.

Jaiswal’s consistent performances in the Test series against England earned him this accolade. Leading the batting charts with 655 runs after the first four Tests, he equaled Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs in a bilateral series against England in Test cricket, thanks to his two double hundreds.

While Kohli remains the highest-ranked Indian Test batter, he dropped to No. 9 after initially withdrawing from the first two Tests and eventually missing the entire series due to paternity leave following the birth of his son, Akaay, with Anushka Sharma on February 15.

Jaiswal’s emergence as a pivotal player in the series showcased his ability to convert potential into tangible results for the national team. In the absence of senior batsmen like Kohli and KL Rahul, he admirably shouldered the responsibility, becoming only the third Indian to hit double hundreds in successive Test matches, following Kohli and Vinod Kambli.

Furthermore, Shubman Gill’s consistent performances saw him rise four spots to No. 31 in the batting rankings, while Dhruv Jurel achieved a career-best ranking of 69 after his heroics in India’s Ranchi Test victory.

Gill, initially facing scrutiny for his lack of substantial scores, silenced his critics with a hundred and two fifties in consecutive Test innings. In the crucial fourth Test in Ranchi, he played a crucial role in India’s successful chase of 192, remaining unbeaten on 52 as wickets tumbled around him.

Meanwhile, Jurel exhibited remarkable composure with a match-saving 90 in the first innings of the Ranchi Test, rescuing India from a precarious situation. His contributions, including an unbeaten 39 in the chase, highlighted his growing prowess on the international stage.
