Seventeen years ago Tanmay shared a strong bond with Virat Kohli when both players led Indian cricket teams at the Under-19 World Cup. Virat Kohli led India to an Under-19 World Cup victory when he served as the team captain. Ravindra Jadeja served as one of the prominent players from that same team alongside Manish Pandey. Even though Tanmay did not get an international cricket opportunity his team members grew to become major cricket stars.

During the Under-19 World Cup Tanmay held the position of leading run-scorer for his team. Through his first-class century matches he proved himself with a total of 4918 runs including 10 centuries. His List A career consisted of 44 matches where he maintained 1728 runs. A total of 34 T20 matches proved suitable for Tanmay to accumulate 649 runs throughout his career.
