Here is a list of players that includes some of the most celebrated batters with most single digit dismissals in IPL history that proves that cricket’s cruelty spares no one, not even the greatest ones.
Rohit Sharma (78 single-digit dismissals)
During Mumbai Indian’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders during IPL 2013 Rohit Sharma suffered a particularly brutal start by getting out on his very first delivery without scoring a run. His entry presented an important opportunity to Mumbai Indians when Sunil Narine dismissed him LBW on his opening delivery. The unfortunate dismissal cause a devastating collapse that Mumbai could never catch up from which eventually led to their defeat with a substantial score deficit. The situation became more upsetting since Rohit took over captaincy during that season when teams expected significant progress.
Dinesh Karthik (72 single-digit dismissals)
During the 2014 season with Delhi Karthik faced a disastrous dismissal after getting out without scoring against Rajasthan Royals within his first three balls. After Delhi reached 35/2, Karthik became part of their early middle-order demise when he mishit a swing and got caught out at mid-off. The team suffered one of their weakest totals for that year. During the UAE iteration of the 2014 IPL season Virat Kohli faced a complete nightmare but his simple catch to mid-off dismissal for 4 runs proved most shocking when he faced off against Kolkata Knight Riders. While facing Morne Morkel Kohli failed to resist a ball which was correctly played outside the stumps, resulting in his dismissal by the keeper. Kohli’s dismissal at this juncture started a collapse in the chase which resulted in RCB’s defeat despite the smaller target. This batting performance consisted of multiple matches during which Kohli failed to achieve double digits including six matches in a row leading to doubts about his ball handling ability.
Shikhar Dhawan (56 single-digit dismissals)
During the Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings match of 2018 Dhawan experienced one of his most unfortunate moments as a batsman when he was out after facing only five balls. The good batting conditions allowed Deepak Chahar to dismiss Dhawan with an edge which went to the slip fielder. Dhawan’s early loss created major problems for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s middle order because they registered one of their team’s worst results that year. During the time when Dhawan was competing for India’s World Cup squad selection his poor performance at bat worsened concerns about his form as a player.

Suresh Raina (53 single-digit dismissals)
The 8-run dismissal of Suresh Raina in the 2019 IPL final against Mumbai Indians cost Chennai Super Kings their last chance to win the match. The tight match demanded Raina to keep the innings together but he left after missing a Rahul Chahar off-break that spun awkwardly. During the match against Mumbai Indians in the 2019 final Raina made a poor decision to play a drive against spin from his stumps which resulted in a first slip catch. CSK experienced their first IPL final defeat by a single run after Raina was out of the match by just 1 run during the pivotal moment.
