New Delhi: With a moving speech in the Australian Open, Indian Tennis icon Sania Mirza has bid farewell to the game. But what made her the star was her hardwork, passion and struggles to the way on top.
Last year, Mirza announced her retirement which left many disheartened as they will not be able to see the Tennis player on the court again.
The Australian Open has always been special for her as it was the only place where she she made her first Grand Slam appearance and won her first major and finally. So, what else could have been a better place to her to end her career.

With her retirement, India will lose its most decorated Tennis woman star forever. Sania owns every milestone that every Indian tennis star would dream of, especially in women’s tennis. The 36-year-old ranked as high as number 27 in singles and was the doubles No 1 for a total of 91 weeks. She has won six grand slam titles in doubles.

Sania Mirza best performance in Grand Slam in Singles event
Indian tennis ace player Sania Mirza’s best performance in Grand Slam Singles event came at the 2005 U.S. Open where she reached fourth round before losing to top seed Maria Sharapova.
She also reached the third round of the Australian Open on two occasions (2005, 2008) and the second round of Roland-Garros (2007, 2011) and Wimbledon (2005, 2007, 2008, 2009).

How many Grand Slam Sania Mirza has won
Throughout her career, Sania won sixth Grand Slams titles- three in women’s doubles and the rest in mixed doubles.
She also reached the third round of Australian Open in two occasions (2005, 2008). She also reached second round of Roland-Garros (2007, 2011) and Wimbledon (2005, 2007, 2008, 2009).

How many WTA titles Sania has won
In her entire career, Sania won 43 Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) doubles titles and one WTA singles title. Mirza also won the season-ending WTA Tour Finals on two occasions, 2014 (with Cara Black) and 2015 (with Martina Hingis).
In Singles, she has won the WTA Hyderabad Open in 2005. She is the one and only Indian till date to win the WTA Tour Singles title.
Sania’s best WTA rating
Sania Mirza reached the No 1 ranking in women’s doubles on April 13, 2005 and remained at the top spot for a total of 91 weeks.
In singles, she peaked at No 27 in the rankings in August 2007. Currently Sania is ranked No 29.
