New Delhi: The Hockey World Cup 2023 has entered his last stage, the grand finale. Two teams will fight the battle for the glories trophy. Belgium will take on Germany for the final time at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar. The Belgium golden generation of hockey will look to retain their throne, while Germany will aim to regain their lost glory. Both the European nations are still be defeated in this tournament and after 44 games and 16 nations participated in the biggest contest of hockey world. Journey to the final

Both the teams were slatted in the same group, Pool B. Germany and Belgium faced each other in their group stage with both the team ended on 2-2 draw.  It was a game high on quality, with Niklas Wellen and Tom Grambusch scoring for Germany while Cedric Charlier and Victor Wegnez netted for Belgium. The defending champions Belgium finished top of the Pool B, thanks to the goal difference better then the Germany. Both the finalist team defeated Japan and South Korea in their group stage. Belgium met New Zealand in the quarter-final and passed the taste with a 2-0 win. In the semi-final they faced the mighty Netherlands and ended the full-time with 2-2 draw. But the Red Lions advanced in the penalty shootout by 3-2. The second finalist Germany has different path and had to passed the three filter stage before the final. They first faced France in the crossover, where Germany overcome the French men by 5-1 goals. Then they met England in the quarter-final, they were down 0-2 with three minutes to go when Mats and Tom Grambusch scored to make it 2-2. They won the shootout 4-3 to make it to the semifinals. They beat the Australian side with 4-3 just before the final vessel blown.

Since 1928 Olympics, Germany and Belgium faced each others in 35 matches. Germany has won 15 and Belgium bagged 13 wins. But looking at the results of the last five matches, it would be difficult to separate the two sides. In the last five matches, Belgium have won 3 and lost 1, with 1 being a draw. But the margin of victory has not been much.
