For many Indian athletes, including cricketers, age can be a tricky factor, especially once they reach their 30s, when perceptions often shift dramatically.

Maiden Ton For Pratham Singh

However, for 32-year-old Pratham Singh, seems make a new beginning. The Railways left-hander celebrated his debut Duleep Trophy century in India A’s second-round match against India D at the Anantapur Cricket Ground on Saturday, September 14.

Despite a disappointing start in the first innings, where he was dismissed for seven runs off 33 balls, Pratham bounced back with a stellar performance in the second innings. He crafted a solid 122 from 189 balls, including 12 boundaries and a six, providing a strong start for India A.

Pratham Singh’s Career

Having made his domestic debut in 2017, this week’s Duleep Trophy has been a long coming for Pratham Singh as he finally secured his chance at the next level. This tall left-hander has managed to accumulate over 1,000 runs across all formats while playing for the Railways. His last First-Class outing in February saw him record his career-best score of 169 not out against Tripura off 300 deliveries. The ton came in his 28th match after almost six years of waiting.

Pratham’s contribution, therefore, was an exciting record, which led Railways to achieve the highest successful chase in Ranji Trophy history. His dogged innings anchored the successful chase of 378 runs for the Railways on the last two days of the match after their early struggle and first-innings deficit.

Pratham has also had brief stints in the Indian Premier League, being picked up by the Gujarat Lions in 2017 and the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022, although he didn’t play a single game. Born in Delhi and engineer by profession, Pratham has scored 530 runs in 12 innings during the last Ranji season, which includes one century and three fifties. Moreover, he had a good record in T20 cricket too, recording four successive fifties in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy in his maiden 2019-20 season.
