Born on September 14, 1990, in Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav has carved out quite a name for himself as a dynamic right-handed batsman in international and domestic cricket. He is known for his aggressive and attractive style of batting. Yadav started off his journey with Mumbai in the 2010-11 season and immediately grabbed attention with his consistent performances. His all-round shotplay earned him an IPL contract, wherein he has represented teams such as Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.

A big turn in Yadav’s career came when he was drafted into the Mumbai Indians in 2018, where his telling contributions helped them win the IPL crown. His star-studded performances in the league eventually earned him a call-up into the Indian T20I squad in 2020. He made a sparkling debut against England, that showed his flair and adaptability on the big stage.

IPL Career

Suryakumar Yadav known for his explosive batting, joined Mumbai Indians in 2011 marking his debut in the Indian Premier League. After a successful period starting in 2014 with the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he earned recognition for his inventive play, he made his return to Mumbai Indians. One of the major reasons behind Knight Riders’ successful season in 2014 was his ability to play vital knocks in the lower order. However, it was his return to Mumbai Indians that Yadav finally came into his own, most notably ending up as the top scorer in IPL 2018 with a staggering 512 runs.

Overall he has accumulated 3594 runs in 150 matches with an average of 32.38 and a strike rate of 145.33.

Test Career

Suryakumar Yadav has played only one Test match in his career so far, scoring 8 runs at an average of 8. He could hit only one four in that match and no sixes. His Test appearance was in February 2023, where he scored 8 runs off 20 balls against Australia.

ODI Career

Suryakumar Yadav has so far played 37 ODIs, averaging 26 runs per match and amassing altogether 773 runs throughout the ODIs he has played. Suryakumar has hit 19 sixes and 80 fours throughout his ODI career. In his most recent appearance at the ODI World Cup in November 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Suryakumar scored 18 runs off 28 balls.

T20 Career

In his T20 career, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 2432 runs in 71 matches with an average of 42.66 and an incredible strike rate of 168.65. In his T20 career, Suryakumar Yadav has hit 220 fours and 136 sixes.

He scored 117 runs off 55 balls against England in June 2022. This marked his first T20I century and his personal best score till now.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Iconic T20 World Cup Final Catch

Suryakumar Yadav also known as “SKY” and “Mr 360” took a stunning catch at the boundary in India vs South Africa T20 World Cup Final. One catch turned the tables for India which eventually paved way for the “Men in Blue” to seal the World Cup victory.

Suryakumar Yadav has been handed the responsibility to captain Team India in the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh starting on October 6. Later, he will also lead the T20I contingent during their tour to South Africa where they play a four-match series.
