New Delhi: Rohit Sharma struck 65 runs off 45 balls as Mumbai Indians won their first match of the Indian premier League’s (IPL) 16th edition on Tuesday, April 11 as they defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 6-wicket.

Mumbai win by 6 wickets

Tim David hit the ball towards mid-off and charged for a double. A poor throw by Warner and the pair of David and Cameron Green completed the single easily. MI won by six wickets.

Mumbai’s batting

Mumbai chasing the target of 173 got the impressive start from the both the openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan adding 71 runs for the opening wicket. A mix-up then got rid of Ishan for 31(26). Rohit then build-up the partnership with Tilak Verma. The added crucial 68 runs for the second wicket, before Mukesh Kumar removed him in the 16th over.

Mukesh strikes twice

Mukesh Kumar first dismissed Tilak Verma 41(29) and then removed Suryakumar Yadav for a first ball duck.

Mukesh Kumar was introduced in the attack but Tilak Varma got 10 runs in the first two balls.

He started with a full delivery pitched outside off, which was struck by the batter over the point fielder for a boundary. The batter then hit the pacer for consecutive sixes. The first shot came towards the mid-wicket region, and followed it up with another maximum over the covers.

However, Mukesh removed him in the same over as he takes the aerial route one more time. However, his shot found Manish Pandey at deep. He falls for 41(29). Mukesh then removed Suryakumar Yadav for a first ball duck, who is caught by Kuldeep Yadav at fine leg.

Delhi Capitals’ batting

Earlier,Axar Patel slammed a sensational 25-ball 54 to bail Delhi out of danger after they were reduced to 98/5. Apart from him, David Warner hit yet scores fifty before getting out for 51(47). Meanwhile, Mumbai did an exceptional job in the death overs and picked the final five batters in 10 balls. Jason Behrendorff and Piyush Chawla scalped three wickets each.

Rohit Sharma’s fifty

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma slammed his first half-century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since 2021. Kuldeep Yadav came into the attack and Rohit Sharma guided it down to short fine-leg and completed a quick single. With this he brought up his 50, which he reached in 29 balls. Meanwhile, this was his first IPL half-century in 25 innings.

First fifty since 2021

The Mumbai Indians skipper last scored a fifty on April 23, 2021 against Punjab Kings at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. His 53-ball 62 guided Mumbai to a modest 131 for six in 20 overs in that match.
