Yashasvi Jaiswal's Press Conference

New Delhi: It was the debut to remember for young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal as made and broke many records to his name on maiden Test against West Indies on Thursday, July 13 at the Windsor Park, Roseau in Dominica.

Jaiswal scores century on debut

Yashasvi Jaiswal joined the elit list of player including his captain Rohit Sharma after smashing a century. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on the Day 1 of the 1st Test on 40. On Day 2, Jaiswal started the game with same composure. He took no time and scored fifty with great control over the game.

Day 2 highlights

At the end of the Day 2, Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 144 and had shared strong 82-runs partnership with Virat Kohli, who is batting on (36*). Jaiswal got emotional in the post match press conference as he dedicated his first century to his mother and father.

“It is very emotional for me and my family. For everyone who has supported me in any way. It has been a long journey. I want to say thank you to everyone who have helped me. I want to dedicate this to my mother and father, they hav contributed a lot. Thanks to god. I won’t say much now… I’m happy, this is just a start, I’ve a lot to do,” Yashasvi said in the video clip posted by the BCCI.

Jaiswal struggle story

Jaiswal’s struggle story is not less then a Bollywood’s saga, living in tents and selling street food to pursue his cricketing dream. After some quality domestic performance and Indian Premier League’s success, he got Indian cap.

IPL 2023 performance

While he had made his IPL debut in 2020, Jaiswal enjoyed his breakthrough season this year, smashing 625 runs in 14 matches at a terrific strike rate of 163.61, and an average of 48.08. The left-handed opener also scored a century while smashing five fifties in the 2023 edition. His IPL performance was the key reason for his India’s call-up.
