The official tour for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 kicked off in Pakistan on Tuesday, November 19, amidst continuing tensions over the hosting of the event. The trophy tour is launched as a dispute brews between the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) over a refusal by the Indian government to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the tournament.
Trophy Tour Moving Through Pakistani Cities
The Champions Trophy has been travelling through most Pakistani cities, passing Islamabad, Taxila, and Khanpur. To mark the event, the ICC released a video on social media about the journey of the iconic trophy. The event was accompanied by some of the biggest names in Pakistan cricket, including Shadab Khan and Shoaib Akhtar, who were also seen holding the silverware proudly.
Changes In Trophy Tour Itinerary
Initially, the PCB had intended to host the trophy in the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) region, but it was resisted by BCCI. In response to a formal complaint, the ICC revised the tour itinerary to avoid the controversial region, ensuring the event complied with international sensitivities.
The trophy will then head for the other participant countries as the tour continues to Pakistan, where it will remain until November 25. The trophy will then proceed to India from January 15 to 26 and will make a final stop in Pakistan on January 27.
