India will be eyeing to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when they tour for the five-match Test series. India and Australia have a head-to-head competition, it started in 2003 in Adelaide, followed by India beating Australia in 2007-08. But Team India had to face defeats couple of times after that. It was only in 2018-19 tour when India bounced back with a win and defended their title again in 2020-21 tour. Australia has not beaten India since the 2014-15 series at home.

Jay Shah’s talks about India’s winning potential

BCCI secretary Jay Shah remains optimistic and shows confidence in Team India. He has backed the Indian Team and said that the players are well prepared, highlighting that both Bumrah and Shami will be in action by that time.

“Our team is well prepared. We have rested Jasprit Bumrah for a while. Mohammed Shami is expected to be fit too. This is an experienced side now. Seniors like Rohit and Kohli are fit,” said Jay Shah to TOI.

The five-match Test series will be starting from November 22 in Perth.

Ravi Shastri and Ricky Ponting’s opinion on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The Test series has garnered a lot of attention over the years and cricket experts have even given their predictions for this year, Ricky Ponting has backed Australia to win by 3-1 and Ravi Shastri came in support of Rohit Sharma and co. India’s lethal bowling attack has been one of the major reasons in India’s success against the Aussies.

Ravi Shastri’s take on the five-match Test series:

“The Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia over five Test matches is going to be a humdinger,” Shastri said.

“Remember, India have beaten Australia twice on the last two tours and Australia have not had a hand on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in almost a decade and that’s the reason why everyone will be waiting for these two heavyweights of Test match cricket over the last five to eight years to go head-to-head.

“It is going to be one heck of a series and India have every chance of making it a hat-trick because they’ve got their bowlers fit and if they can bat well, they can tickle (beat) Australia once again.”

Ricky Ponting backed Australia to win by 3-1:

“I’m obviously going to tip Australia to win and I’m never going to tip against Australia. There will be a draw somewhere and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I’m going to say 3-1 to Australia.”

The backbone of India’s bowling lineup, Jasprit Bumrah will have the spotlight but he would need 2-3 fast bowlers to support him through the series. Mohammed Shami is likely to play as he has also recovered from injury.
