Reason Behind His Exclusion
The official announcement from Chennai Super Kings cited England’s Test team captain, Ben Stokes, being sidelined due to concerns over workload and fitness. Recent reports suggested the 32-year-old may undergo a knee operation, focusing on recovery ahead of the imminent five-match Test series between India and England preceding the IPL. This has prompted Stokes to opt out of IPL 2024.
Stokes’ IPL Journey
Ben Stokes marked his IPL debut in 2017 and has since participated in only 45 matches. Despite being bought by franchises at considerable expenses, his tenure has been marred by inconsistencies. His fitness concerns have resulted in an on-and-off presence, notably during his stint with the Rajasthan Royals. Unfortunately, his limited appearances persisted even after his move to Chennai Super Kings in 2023, where he managed to play merely two matches.
His IPL Stats
Throughout his IPL career, Stokes has contributed significantly, accumulating 935 runs in 45 matches. His repertoire includes two centuries and a pair of half-centuries, boasting an average of 24.61 and an impressive strike rate of 133.95. He has also showcased his bowling prowess, securing a total of 28 wickets. While a part of the Rajasthan Royals until 2021, Stokes sat out the 2022 season before his brief stint with Chennai Super Kings in 2023.
