BCCI Central Contracts 2025: India will be back in Test cricket in June with a five-match series against England. The side, captained by Rohit Sharma, had a disappointing tour of Australia, losing the five-match series 3-1. India began the series with a victory under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah but then lost two matches under Rohit’s captaincy, the last one also under Bumrah’s captaincy. Rohit then resigned from the fifth Test because of his poor performance and dismissed retirement talk, assuring that he will keep on captainning the side and playing for red-ball cricket.
But a latest report by India Today states that Rohit has opted out of the England tour because of his disappointing performances in Australia. In the series, Rohit scored only 31 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 6.20, which helped India perform poorly under him. India lost two of the three matches they played under his captaincy, and Bumrah took over as captain in the fifth Test when Rohit was not there.

Comeback In Champions Trophy 2025
Rohit staged a big comeback in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which saw India win the title. After the win, there were reports stating that Rohit would remain captain of India in Tests as well, but now this remains uncertain. India Today states that Virat Kohli is expected to stay in the team. Kohli started the Australian tour on a high with a century in Perth but failed later on, scoring only 190 runs in nine innings.
It is uncertain whether Bumrah will be declared captain for the tour of England, particularly as he is nursing a back injury sustained while playing in the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He is likely to be out of action for several more IPL games for Mumbai Indians as he continues his recovery.
