Sunrisers Hyderabad‘s pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar is pleased to see a shift in dynamics, with the team’s batting lineup taking center stage in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

However, Bhuvi emphasizes that the bowling unit, not the batters, is instrumental in winning championships, likening the role of the batting unit to providing ‘sponsorships’. Bhuvneshwar’s comments came after SRH’s convincing win against Delhi Capitals, where the team posted scores exceeding 260 for the third time in this campaign.

“When you’re defending those many runs, we accepted that we will go for plenty of runs. We wanted to keep executing our plans. Just a matter of time before I start picking up wickets and things start going right,” Bhuvi said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

‘Bowlers Win Championships’

While acknowledging the impressive performances of teammate T Natarajan with the ball this season, Bhuvneshwar highlights the dominance of the batting unit in recent headlines. Although Bhuvneshwar commends Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma for their impactful contributions at the top of the order for SRH, he maintains the belief that championships are ultimately won by bowling prowess.

“You don’t think much about where the ball is going while bowling in the nets but yes, they give us some nice practice, especially Abhishek and Travis Head. Bowling is something that wins you matches, not sure who said it but they said ‘Batting wins you sponsorships and bowling wins you championships’, I think that’s a great saying. The way we executed our plans is great,” he concluded.
