New Delhi: India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu was eliminated from the All England Open 2023 on Wednesday. Sindhu suffered defeat form the hand of Zhang Yi Man of China in straight games in her opening contest in the round of 32, which lasted 39 minutes, 17-21, 11-21.

Playing against the drift, Indian ace started with the measured approach and held the lead at 16-13. However, Zhang’s cross court smashes helped to claw her way back into the game and and sealed the opening game.
Sindhu and Zhang were 1-1 before Wednesday’s meeting. Sindhu won the maiden contest in 2022 Malaysia, sealing a win in straight games (21-12, 21-10). Zhang beat Sindhu in the German Open next (21-14, 15-21), 21-14).

Sindhu performance in last Open
The 27-year-old star had entered the women’s singles tournament after unsatisfactory start to the 2023 season. Sindhu had lost in the first round of the Malaysia Open and the India Open after a long layoff.

Treesa-Gayatri proceed to 2nd round
Earlier during the day, India’s women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela stunned seventh seeded Thailand duo of Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai 21-18 21-14 in a 46-minute first round match.
The Indian duo will meet the Japanese pair of Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota in the pre-quarterfinals. On Tuesday, Lakshya Sen and HS Prannnoy had won their respective men’s singles first round matches.
