Rashid Khan set a new record for Afghanistan, surpassing a 14-year-old milestone previously held by Nawroz Mangal. Rashid achieved the best figures by an Afghan captain in T20Is with his impressive bowling spell of 3 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs. Mangal had held the record since February 2010, with figures of 3 wickets for 23 runs against Ireland in the World T20 Qualifiers final. Rashid’s crucial wickets included Stirling, Campher, and Delany, contributing to Afghanistan restricting Ireland to 149 for 6 in 20 overs.
Despite Rashid’s outstanding performance, Afghanistan suffered a 38-run defeat to Ireland, trailing 0-1 in the series. Afghanistan was bowled out for 111 in 18.4 overs, with Rashid being dismissed by Josh Little just when he had the opportunity to steer his team to victory. Mohammad Ishaq showed promise with the bat, scoring 32 runs off 22 balls with 6 fours before being dismissed by Ben White.
