Abhishek Bachchan’s interest in sports expands as the Bollywood actor has reportedly expanded into cricket administration by investing in the European T20 Premier League after two successful Pro Kabaddi League seasons. As a co-owner, he will be part of this ICC-sanctioned tournament that aims to showcase cricket talent from European nations including Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands, while also featuring international players. The league is planned to commence operations this year.
“Cricket is not just a sport; it’s a unifying force that transcends boundaries. The ETPL is the ideal platform to showcase cricket’s growing global appeal. With cricket being included in the 2028 Olympics, its popularity will further surge,” Bachchan said.
“I am dedicated to working with all stakeholders to ensure that the ETPL becomes a resounding success, bringing cricket closer to millions across Europe. This is just the beginning. It’s time to roll up our sleeves and let the games begin,” he added.
The inaugural season of the European T20 Premier League is set to run from mid-July to early August 2025, featuring six franchise teams based in major European cities across Ireland (Dublin, Belfast), the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Rotterdam), and Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow).
