Gurgaon: In the view of Jain festival ‘Paryushan Parv’, meat shops along with slaughterhouses will remain close under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon.
“We have received an order from the state government, following which we have decided to shut all meat shops in the city from August 24 to September 1. We will soon call a meeting of shop owners to apprise them of the ban on meat sales during Paryushan Parv,” the news agency PTI quoted Deputy Municipal Commissioner Vijaypal Yadav.
The official further informed that the ban will not imply on the frozen meat packages available in the market.
Therefore, supermarkets are allowed to sell frozen meat items.
However, while objecting to the decision, a number of meat shop owners said they will have to suffer a loss if the shops will be closed for nine days straight.
Last year in March, the civic body announced to keep meat shops closed on Tuesday in the city.
