World Bicycle Day 2023: Date and History

The World Bicycle day is celebrated on June 3 every year. The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in April 2018 designating June 3rd as the official day to honour bicycles. It marks the beginning the history of World Bicycle Day. Turkmenistan introduced the proposal to recognise and promote the bicycle’s contribution to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

Significance

World Bicycle Day aims to raise awareness about the benefits of cycling and advocate for better infrastructure and policies. It encourages individuals, communities, and governments to promote and embrace cycling as a solution to various societal challenges.

On this day, various events and activities are organised worldwide to celebrate the bicycle’s importance. These can include community bike rides, cycling competitions, workshops on bike maintenance and safety, among others.
