Sunlight benefits

New Delhi: Vitamin D is a very essential component of a healthy body. The deficiency if this vitamin can cause not just weakness of bones but many other diseases too. Sunlight helps us to meet the deficiency of Vitamin D. But it is very important to know at what time and for how long vitamin D should be taken from sunlight. A nutritionist Leema Mahajan has given this information by sharing her video on her Instagram page.

She explains that vitamin D helps in making many proteins and enzymes that protect the body against diseases. Its deficiency can cause many problems in the body. These include weakening of bones, pain in muscles, hair fall, mood swings and even breathing problems. Sunlight is the ultimate source of Vitamin D whereas it can also be found in various food items.

We should consume sunlight between 12 to 3

As per Lima Mahajan, a healthy person needs 600 UI of Vitamin D every day. According to experts, the right time to take Vitamin D is between 12 noon to 3 pm. Some experts also believe one should sit in sunlight when the rays are not very hot. Strong sunlight can cause cutaneous melanoma which is a dangerous tumor.

How does complexion relate to sunlight intake?

Lima Mahajan told that people who have fair complexion should sit in the sun only for 15 minutes. While those whose color is dark, they should not stay in the sun for more than 30 minutes. She tells that sunscreen should not be applied while sitting in the sun. After that it should be used.

Food sources with enrichment of Vitamin D

Apart from this, there are some foods in which vitamin D is found. These food items should always be included in your diet in order to avoid the deficiency of vitamin D. These include salmon fish, cod liver oil, egg yolk, mushroom, cow’s milk, soy milk, orange juice, and oatmeal.
